Three carriers. Three networks. All under $30/month. We put Visible, Mint Mobile, and Tello through real-world testing to find the best cheap unlimited plan in 2025.
The race for the best cheap unlimited plan has never been more competitive. Three carriers — Visible, Mint Mobile, and Tello — all offer compelling plans under $30 per month, but they approach the market very differently. We tested all three for a month each to determine which delivers the best real-world experience.
The Contenders
Visible is Verizon's prepaid brand offering one simple unlimited plan. Mint Mobile is the Ryan Reynolds-backed carrier that sells T-Mobile service in bulk. Tello is the ultra-flexible budget option that lets you build custom plans on T-Mobile's network. Each has strengths and weaknesses that make it ideal for different types of users.
Round 1: Price
Tello wins on raw price — you can build a plan for as little as $5 per month if you only need basic service. But for unlimited data, the comparison shifts. Visible's flat $25/month for truly unlimited data is unbeatable for heavy users. Mint Mobile's unlimited plan is $30/month, with a $15/month intro rate for the first three months.
Price Winner: Visible (for unlimited), Tello (for light users)
Round 2: Coverage
Visible runs on Verizon's network — the most extensive coverage in the United States, especially in rural areas. Mint Mobile and Tello both use T-Mobile, which offers faster 5G speeds in urban areas but weaker rural coverage. If you live in a city, T-Mobile's network will likely serve you well. If you live in a rural area or travel extensively, Visible's Verizon backbone is the clear choice.
Coverage Winner: Visible
Round 3: Data Speeds
In our testing across five cities, Mint Mobile consistently delivered the fastest 5G speeds, averaging 180-320 Mbps on T-Mobile's mid-band 5G. Tello delivered identical speeds since it uses the same network. Visible on Verizon averaged 120-250 Mbps — still excellent, but slightly behind T-Mobile's current 5G deployment in urban areas.
However, during network congestion, all three carriers deprioritize MVNO traffic behind postpaid customers. In our tests, Visible's deprioritization was the most noticeable, with speeds dropping to 5-10 Mbps during peak hours in busy areas. Mint Mobile and Tello experienced similar drops but recovered faster.
Speed Winner: Mint Mobile (slight edge)
Round 4: Customer Support
This is where the comparison gets interesting. All three carriers are online-only — no retail stores. Visible offers support primarily through chat with limited phone hours. Mint Mobile provides phone, chat, and email support with generally responsive agents. Tello offers chat and email with decent response times.
In our secret shopper tests, Mint Mobile had the fastest resolution time (under 15 minutes for a billing question). Tello was second (22 minutes). Visible took 45 minutes to reach a human agent who could actually help. All three are dramatically better than TracFone's infamous support, but Mint Mobile edges ahead.
Support Winner: Mint Mobile
Round 5: Features & Extras
Visible offers unlimited mobile hotspot at speeds up to 5 Mbps — a standout feature. Mint Mobile includes hotspot data on all plans. Tello offers free international calling to 60+ countries, a unique perk for immigrants and international families. Visible has "Party Pay" which drops your bill to $25/month for groups. Mint Mobile offers the best intro pricing. Tello offers the most flexibility.
Features Winner: Depends on your needs
Final Verdict: Which Should You Choose?
Choose Visible if you want the simplest unlimited plan on America's most reliable network, or if you live in a rural area. Choose Mint Mobile if you want the best overall value, fastest speeds, and strongest customer support. Choose Tello if you are a light user who wants maximum flexibility and the lowest possible bill.
Any of these three carriers will give you a dramatically better experience than TracFone — at a lower price, with better support, and without the constant fear that your service will disappear tomorrow.
